As a member of the Montana Photonics Industry Alliance, we hosted a tour with the Israeli Consul General Shlomi Kofman. Twenty years ago, he worked for a company that made semiconductor wafer inspection tools.  At that time, there were no SMT parts. He remembered hand soldering all the plate-through resistors and capacitors. He hadn’t seen the kind of SMT automation we have nor a Selective Solder or AOI machine. We made an excellent impression. Mr. Kofman is based in San Francisco and is responsible for the Pacific Northwest region of the US (Alaska, Northern California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington).  He was here to learn more about the robust photonics and optics presence in Montana.  He is looking for opportunities for Montana and Israeli firms in the industry to build mutually beneficial trading relationships. Montana World Trade Center out of Missoula sponsored the visit.

Functional imaging of tumor cells provides critical information about the size and location of the tumor, as well as the micro-environment. Many tumors grow faster than blood vessels can form, leading to a lack of oxygen. HIF-1α then regulates the creation of new vascular networks. Hence HIF-1α can be used to identify tumor aggressiveness, proliferation, and likelihood to metastasize. Researchers from Spain have reported a fluorescent hypoxia biosensor based on the oxygen-dependent degradation domain of HIF-1α. This probe is stabilized under hypoxia, properly degrades under normoxia, and retains the oxygen sensing capability of HIF-1α. The developed hypoxia sensor contributes to a deeper view and understanding of the tumor micro-environment that modern imaging techniques cannot provide.

Due to the highly sensitive nature of fluorescence spectroscopy, the spectra were recorded with a fluorometer coupled to Wavelength Electronics’ LFI-3751 temperature controller. The high performance and high precision LFI‑3751 temperature controller ensured stable wavelength and power of the emitted light.

We are pleased to announce upgrades to the popular WLD, WTC, and WHY laser driver and temperature controller product lines.  These changes are scheduled to take effect by April 2022.

The Wxx Product Series now include a new and robust set of pins. Evaluation Boards for these products also have new pin sockets to eliminate the need to solder the module to the board. There will be new part numbers for these upgraded products. The LDTC0520 & LDTC1020 Products will have a new revision as the height increases.

Specifications for the new pin sizes, PCB holes, Evaluation Board heights, and LDTC0520 & LDTC1020 Product heights can be found in the Wxx Product Change Notification.

You will have to make a couple changes to your system:

  • Change PCB drill diameter for Wxx products
  • Evaluate the effect of the Evaluation Board height change
  • Evaluate the effect of the LDTC0520 & LDTC1020 height change

Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Beta testing with these new products is also available for confirmation in your design systems.

We invite you to contribute topic suggestions, questions, and general feedback.
Wavelength will incorporate as much reader input as possible.
